Abstract
Ovarian cancer is the sixth most common cancer and the fifth leading cause of cancer-related death among women in developed countries. There is increasing evidence suggesting that the hormonal environment of the normal ovarian surface epithelium (OSE) and ovarian epithelial cancer (OEC) cells is associated with the development and progression of ovarian cancer. Exposure to excess gonadotropins and leptin, related to menopause or infertility therapy and obesity, respectively, has been implicated as a risk factor for ovarian cancer.

Abstract
The present study was conducted to investigate the hypothesis that membrane phosphoinositide breakdown may participate in the actions of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) on hormone production in the rat ovary. In granulosa cells prelabeled with [³H]-arachidonic acid or [³H]-inositol, treatment with LHRH increased the accumulation of radiolabeled inositol lipids, diacylglycerol and free arachidonic acid, but luteinizing hormone (LH) or cholera toxin did not exert the same effect. Activation of protein kinase C by the phorbol ester, 12-0-tetradecanoyl phorbol-13-acetate (TPA) had a stimulatory action on membrane phosphoinositide breakdown.
