Abstract
The Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN) program trains health care providers to stabilize that most challenging and enigmatic of medical patients: the unwell newborn. Early assessment, intervention, and management of at-risk or unstable infants can be critical for their survival and long-term health. Clinical care standards and educational programs to address these requirements are needed. The ACoRN program provides a unique, prioritized, and systematic approach to newborn stabilization for health care professionals with any degree of experience. ACoRN-trained providers learn to gather information, prioritize, intervene appropriately, and deliver high-quality care to at-risk and unwell newborns in any setting. Because research and practice have advanced dramatically in recent years, the need for a new ACoRN text, the program's centrepiece, became essential. Hence the development of this new edition, which reflects current guidelines and evidence-based best practices. ACoRN teaches the concepts and skills required to stabilize unwell newborns through system-based algorithms ('Sequences'), each with its own chapter: - Respiratory - Fluid and Glucose - Cardiovascular - Jaundice - Neurology - Thermoregulation - Surgical Conditions - Infection Each chapter includes educational objectives, key concepts, learning points, and at least one case scenario with questions and answers to reinforce content and learnings. Chapters describing newborn transition, the ACoRN process, supportive care, and safe transport round out the systems-based core. This book is written for any health professional who may be required to participate in the stabilization of sick or preterm babies within their scope of practice.

Abstract
This is the first book on the market or within academia dedicated solely to moral distress among health professionals. It aims to bring conceptual clarity about moral distress and distinguish it from related concepts. Explicit attention is given to the voices and experiences of health care professionals from multiple disciplines and many parts of the world. Contributors explain the evolution of the concept of moral distress, sources of moral distress including those that arise at the unit/team and organization/system level, and possible solutions to address moral distress at every level. A liberal use of case studies will make the phenomenon palpable to readers.
This volume provides information not only for academia and educational initiatives, but also for practitioners and the research community, and will serve as a professional resource for courses in health professional schools, bioethics, and business, as well as in the hospital wards, intensive care units, long-term care facilities, hospice, and ambulatory practice sites in which moral distress originates.

Palliative Care
Abstract
Interdisciplinary Pediatric Palliative Care provides a uniquely integrated, comprehensive resource about palliative care for seriously ill children and their families. The field of palliative care is based on the fundamental principle that an interdisciplinary team is optimal in caring for patients and their families throughout the illness trajectory. The text integrates themes including goals of care, discipline-specific roles, cultural and spiritual considerations, evidence-based outcomes, and far more. It emphasizes the value of words and high-quality communication in palliative care. Importantly, content acknowledges challenging periods between team members, and how those can ultimately benefit team, patient, and family care outcomes. Each chapter includes the perspective of the family of a seriously ill child in the form of a vignette to promote care team understanding of this crucial perspective. This second edition is founded on a wealth of evidence that reflects the innovations in pediatric palliative care science over the past 10 years, including initiatives in clinical care, research, and education. Interdisciplinary Pediatric Palliative Care is appropriate for all pediatric palliative clinicians (PPC), including physicians, nurses, psychosocial clinicians, chaplains, and many others. All subspecialists who deliver care to seriously ill children, will find this book a must-have for their work. Advance Praise for Interdisciplinary Pediatric Palliative Care, Second Edition "This new edition is as much a testament to pediatric palliative care's remarkable evolution as a field as it is a quintessential playbook for providing the high-quality holistic and compassionate care that families with seriously ill children desperately want. Every page thoughtfully weaves together how interprofessional teams can contribute collaboratively to learning about and supporting the preferences, needs and priorities of the precious patients and families in their circle of care. It is a must read for all practitioners to enhance their palliative care understanding, appreciation and ability as a foundation for optimizing quality of life in practice." - Rebecca Kirch, JD, Executive Vice President of Policy and Programs, National Patient Advocate Foundation "This book offers a truly contemporary and comprehensive view of the entire field of pediatric palliative care. The focus on social determinants of health, cultural humility, and disparities in care could not be timelier, and the section highlighting conflict and conflict resolution should be required reading. The continued and purposeful inclusion of interdisciplinary clinicians in producing each chapter models the palliative care team itself-an approach in which all voices are necessary as we seek to provide the most compassionate care possible." - Rachel Thienprayoon, MD, MSCS, FAAP, FAAHPM, Associate Professor of Anesthesia, Medical Director, StarShine Hospice and Palliative Care, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center

Abstract
Launched by healthcare providers in January 2018, the #aHand2Hold campaign confronted the Quebec government's practice of separating children from their families during medical evacuation airlifts, which disproportionately affected remote and northern Indigenous communities. Pediatric emergency physician Samir Shaheen-Hussain's captivating narrative of this successful campaign, which garnered unprecedented public attention and media coverage, seeks to answer lingering questions about why such a cruel practice remained in place for so long. In doing so it serves as an indispensable case study of contemporary medical colonialism in Quebec. Fighting for a Hand to Hold exposes the medical establishment's role in the displacement, colonization, and genocide of Indigenous peoples in Canada. Through meticulously gathered government documentation, historical scholarship, media reports, public inquiries, and personal testimonies, Shaheen-Hussain connects the draconian medevac practice with often-disregarded crimes and medical violence inflicted specifically on Indigenous children. This devastating history and ongoing medical colonialism prevent Indigenous communities from attaining internationally recognized measures of health and social well-being because of the pervasive, systemic anti-Indigenous racism that persists in the Canadian public health care system - and in settler society at large. Shaheen-Hussain's unique perspective combines his experience as a frontline pediatrician with his long-standing involvement in anti-authoritarian social justice movements. Sparked by the indifference and callousness of those in power, this book draws on the innovative work of Indigenous scholars and activists to conclude that a broader decolonization struggle calling for reparations, land reclamation, and self-determination for Indigenous peoples is critical to achieve reconciliation in Canada.

Abstract
Healthcare costs in the United States are soaring out of control, and virtually every forecast predicts no end to this unhealthy trend.
Until now, there has been no way to quantify and prove the value of healthcare projects and programs. Measuring ROI in Healthcare is what the industry--and the nation itself--has been waiting for.
In this groundbreaking book that is sure to heavily impact the healthcare industry, four ROI experts show you how to measure what was previously unmeasurable and place accurate dollar signs on what was formerly impossible to value.
Whatever healthcare improvement projects you plan to introduce--from systemwide medical procedures, technology implementations, and systems integration to nurse retention, risk management, and leadership development-- Measuring ROI in Healthcare provides the tools you need to prove the worth of your project to decision makers.

Abstract
Now in its second edition, this collection explores how multiple health determinants, such as colonialism, gender, culture, early childhood development, the environment, geography, HIV/AIDS, medicine, and policy, impact the health status of Indigenous peoples in Canada. Grounded in expert voices of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis writers from coast to coast, this updated edition includes a chapter on environment and land defense; a foreword written by Dr. Evan Adams, Chief Medical Officer of the First Nations Health Authority; chapters by Liz Howard and Helen Knott, Indigenous poets; and an updated arrangement that reflects the significant social and political events that dominated headlines over the last two years, such as the protests at Standing Rock, North Dakota, the US national election of 2016, the Indigenous youth suicide epidemic, and the enquiry into murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls in Canada. This revolutionary book is appropriate for undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in courses on health, public and population health, community health sciences, medicine, nursing, and social work.

Abstract
After the publication of his critically acclaimed 2011 book Drink the Bitter Root: A Writer?s Search for Justice and Healing in Africa, author Gary Geddes turned the investigative lens on his own country, embarking on a long and difficult journey across Canada to interview Indigenous elders willing to share their experiences of segregated health care, including their treatment in the "Indian hospitals" that existed from coast to coast for over half a century.
The memories recounted by these survivors?from gratuitous drug and surgical experiments to electroshock treatments intended to destroy the memory of sexual abuse?are truly harrowing, and will surely shatter any lingering illusions about the virtues or good intentions of our colonial past. Yet, this is more than just the painful history of a once-so-called vanishing people (a people who have resisted vanishing despite the best efforts of those in charge); it is a testament to survival, perseverance, and the power of memory to keep history alive and promote the idea of a more open and just future.
Released to coincide with the Year of Reconciliation (2017), Medicine Unbundled is an important and timely contribution to our national narrative.
